Jean Unzicker came to SES from Apple Valley High School in 1999 to work with special education students. She was amazed by what SES students were learning and doing, and by the quality of relationships between students and staff. After her first year she was hired to teach social studies, as well. Jean graduated from Carleton College where she majored in history, and she learned how to be a teacher at the University of Minnesota. Her favorite moments at SES have been slogging through the swamps of the Everglades with students, seine netting in local lakes, helping students learn the Chinese dynasties, grading AP Psychology student’s brain projects and talking to students about their hopes for the future.
