This is a Fall field study that is offered in even numbered years (2016, 2018, etc)
This field study provides students with an opportunity to explore the human and natural history of the South. The approximately 8 day trip makes a loop from Atlanta, to Dahlonega, Ga, to Chattanooga, Tn.
Field Study Description:
What does it mean to be southern? How is the ecology of the Appalachian Mountains similar to Minnesota? What can we learn about ourselves through our nation’s history in the Civil War? We explore these questions and more as we travel and hike the region surrounding the southern tip of the Appalachian range.
Research water issues facing Appalachia from the perspective of various stakeholders
Learn about the history of the Civil War in this region.
Discuss complexity of issues facing the South’s future.
Several significant hikes including a portion of the Appalachian Trail.
Learn about environmental challenges in Georgia.
